Ms. Shanti Kindo, the Director of PRERNA is an active social activist of Jharkhand and working since long for the rights and protection of tribal women, downtrodden classes and children all over Jharkhand. Eminent writer Mahasweta Devi honored with the best national and international awards on literature once wrote: “I have known Ms. Shanti Kindo for 10 years. Lado Jaunko (Ho Tribe) of Chakradharpur and Chuni Kotal (Lodh Tribe) of West Bengal are better activist tribal women. Shanti Kindo (Oraon Tribe) of Jharkhand is also a very talented, catalytic, energetic and committed tribal social activist. She always keeps pressure on the administration to solve problems of the tribal in Jharkhand and always inspiring them to move forward”.
Shri Kripa Shankar Choubey, an eminent journalist of Sahara Samay wrote in his fortnightly magazine that Ms. Shanti Kindo has been working day and night for the welfare of tribal. Shri Kailash Satyarthi, Nobel Peace Laureate also praised Shanti Kindo for her selfless work for the tribal women of Jharkhand and for raising massive campaigns against bonded and child labor and for freedom of thousands of bonded laborers from Palamu.
Because of her impactful work, Shanti Kindo has been honored with several national awards and in 2014; she became the first woman president of the Jharkhand State Child Labor Commission, Jharkhand. From child labour to the prestigious position of the Chairman of the State Child Labor Commission is an example in itself.
Presently, she is working for the progress of PRERNA supported by Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation, Center for Catalyzing Change (C3), My Choice Foundation, Hindalco, District Administration and State Government for development of tribal and for prevention of social evils like child abuse, child labor, child trafficking and child marriage from the society.
